SKATE OR....MAKE A PINATA.

Having two older brothers made me a total tomboy while growing up. I was always trying to keep up with what they were doing and skateboarding was one of those things.  My first board was was about 2 feet long , bright blue and did not move as fast as any of the boys'.  A banana board. I miss that board and if i still had it, would take it for a ride today for national "Go Skate Day".   It was slow, plastic and who knows what company made it, but it was awesome.   Here is my attempt to recreate that board and those memories in to a pinata. How to make a skateboard pinata!

1. What you need: Large box, scissors, masking tape, rubber cement and/or white glue, tissue paper, rope.
2. Draw one side of your skateboard on to box and cut.  Duplicate  by tracing the first piece so both pieces are somewhat even and cut. Cut long 1.5 inch wide strips for side binding.
3. Take side pieces and tape them to one of the board pieces. Once wrapped all the way around, top with the other board piece and tape.

4. Take tissue color of your choice and cut into 4 even strips. Then fold the strip in half and fringe. Repeat again and again with all colors used, to have enough to cover board. The more layers the better.
5. Start with layering tissue on the side panels using rubber cement or white glue. Start from bottom to top. Then move to the front of board. Then the back of the board. *Bottom to top is key!
6. For the wheels, take a 1.5 wide cardboard strip about 5 inches long and bend around into a circle. Tape.

7. Fold a piece of tissue paper in half, place the cardboard wheel on top and tuck tissue into wheel all the way around. Should hold by itself.
8. Using white glue, glue wheels onto the back of the board, with tissue tucked side facing out.
9. Using scissors made a small hole depending on rope size (don't make too big) on top of the pinata.  Take a cord or rope, make small knot and tuck into the hole.
